Architectural Trips
Connecting city and nature, classic and contemporary, the journey immerses students in how architecture and landscape, community and industry shape one another. Through on-site measurements, guided tours, and interviews, they gain first-hand insight into these dynamic relationships. Along the way — both during travel and at each stop — students discuss materials, construction methods, climate responses, and cultural narratives, turning abstract drawings into tangible, lived experiences.
From historic landmarks to local workshops, from community spaces to large-scale public infrastructure, participants look beyond form to uncover the economic, political, and environmental contexts that shape design. Daily pre-visit readings, on-site sketches, and evening reflections help distill raw observations into informed perspectives.
This framework of road trip + architectural field study equips students with a comparative, cross-cultural lens and the ability to design in response to real-world constraints and opportunities. Ultimately, it broadens their worldview and nurtures the curiosity and critical judgment needed to navigate the unknown.
